Through the initiative of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and its founding members, the Hong Kong Australia Business Association (HKABA) was established in 1987. Since then, the Association has experienced tremendous growth in terms of membership base and activities. The Association now registers over 800 members in Australia and Hong Kong and has formed its chapters in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Queensland, Western Australia, Canberra and Northern Territory.
Its membership profile cuts across various industry sectors with trading groups as its largest members, Legal Services comes second followed by the Logistics sector. Other major industry groups within the membership base include Accounting, Business Consultancy, Real Estate, Retail, Education and Travel Services. A committee headed by its president governs each of these chapters.
