His Excellency was born in Central Vietnam in 1954, where he attended school before studying Economics at the Dalat University in the Highlands.
Following the end of the Vietnam War, His Excellency, and his wife, Lan, left Vietnam in a boat in 1977. Travelling via Malaysia, they were one of the early groups of Vietnamese refugees to arrive in Darwin Harbour. His Excellency and Mrs Le soon settled in Adelaide, starting with three months at the Pennington Migrant Hostel.
As his Tertiary study in Vietnam was not recognised in Australia, the Governor returned to study at the University of Adelaide, where he earned a degree in Economics and Accounting within a short number of years. In 2001, His Excellency’s further study earned him a Master of Business Administration from the same university.
His Excellency gained Certified Practising Accountant accreditation, and from 1991 worked at the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, where he led many high-profile matters. Upon his retirement from the Commission in March 2009, he held the position of Senior Manager – Financial Services Regulation.
His Excellency has served on many community boards and committees, in particular those relating to cultural and linguistic diversity, the arts and education.
In 1995 Mr Le was appointed a member to the SA Multicultural and Ethnic Affairs Commission, and was appointed Deputy Chairman in 2001. When His Excellency became Chairman in 2007, he was first person of Asian background to be Chairman. His Excellency resigned from the Commission in August 2014.
In August 2007, His Excellency was sworn in as the Lieutenant Governor of South Australia. Over the next seven years in this role, His Excellency served as the Patron or Honorary member of more than thirty organisations.
On 1 September 2014, His Excellency was sworn in as Governor of South Australia.
It is understood that His Excellency is the first Vietnamese-born person who has ever been appointed to a Vice-Regal position in the world.
His Excellency was awarded the Australia Day Medal in 1996 for outstanding service to Australian Securities and Investment Commission, and has been awarded the Centenary of Federation Medal for service to the advancement of multiculturalism.
On Australia Day 2010, His Excellency was appointed as an Officer in the Order of Australia for service to the community in South Australia. He has also been awarded an Honorary Doctorate from both Adelaide University and Flinders University.
His Excellency is married to Mrs Lan Le, with whom he has two adult sons, Don and Kim.

Dr Roger Sexton is a leading investment banker and company director with extensive professional experience in the Asia Pacific region.
Roger has served as a Chief Executive of a number of large organizations in the finance, funds management and investment banking industries and has served on the Boards of a number of public companies and organizations in Australia and overseas.
After spending the first 14 years of his working career in high level public service roles for both the South Australian State Government and the Commonwealth Government of Australia, Roger transferred his focus to the private sector in 1985 holding Executive Director roles at Morgan Grenfell Australia Limited and then Beneficial Finance Corporation before founding the Beston Pacific Group in 1992.
Roger established the Beston Pacific Group as a boutique investment bank focusing on corporate advisory and structured finance transactions in the Asia Pacific region. Under Roger’s guidance, the Beston Pacific Group has founded a number of significant investment trusts including the Beston Wine Industry Trust which was at the time the largest owner of vineyards in Australia and New Zealand. The management of this Trust was subsequently sold to the Challenger Financial group in 1999. He also founded the Beston Parks Accommodation Trust, the largest owner/operator of caravan parks in Australia.
Roger is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Senior Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australia and a Member of the Australian Accounting Standards Board. Roger is accredited with the Australian Institute of Management as a Certified Practice Manager.
Mr. Francis Wong OAM 黄奇渊

Francis Wong is a prominent figure in marketing Australia as the tourism and business destination. He is well known as an accomplished leader as well as a spokesperson for the Asian Inbound Tourism Industry in Australia and is one of the Business Ambassadors for South Australia appointed by the South Australia Government. He also sits on the peak national tourism body, Australian Tourism Export Council as a board member, Chair the Asian Tourism Industry Advisory Panel. He is also an Area Councillor for Adelaide City Council.
He migrated from Brunei Darussalam in 1988 to establish Encounter Australia Pty Ltd., which is now one of the leading and most awarded national Inbound Tourism companies in Australia. He also co-managed a successful outbound travel company trading as Lai Lai Travel.
His other business interests are Endeavour Australia Pty Ltd, a firm specializing in promoting trade, projects development and marketing between Australia and Asia, Top 8 Wines Pty Ltd, a premium wine exporting business and BBX Adelaide, a barter business to business exchange.
Francis Wong’s positive attitude and entrepreneurial style has won respect in Australia and Asia. His experience in various industries in Australia, coupled with his influential network within the governments and private enterprise has brought many rewards to the Australian tourism industry and communities. This has also led to him being awarded the Council for International Trade and Commerce of South Australia (CITCSA) International Business Ambassador for 3 consecutive years, 2002, 2003 and 2004. In 2005, he was awarded as CITCSA Life Business Ambassador.
In 1998, he was appointed by the Australian Federal Minister for Immigration and Multicultural Affairs to serve on the Business Advisory Panel, advising the Minister and the Department on the national skill migration policy.
In 2003, he is the first Asian in Australia to receive the prestigious national award – ‘Most Outstanding Contributing by an Individual to the Australian Tourism Export
Francis Wong understands the importance of keeping abreast both the domestic and international market environment. His ability of understanding the value of capitalizing on networks has brought many rewards to the Business, Tourism and Multicultural community of South Australia and Australia.
